On Saturday, August 21, 2016 three men arrived at Saint Bonaventure Friary in Loretto, Pennsylvania to begin their Postulancy with the Third Order Regular Franciscans, Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The Postulancy is a nine month discernment period to prepare for the entrance into the Novitiate the formal beginning of Religious Life.

Father Daniel J. Mulkern, T.O.R. was called to his eternal reward on August 4, 2016 at the age of 78. Funeral services will be held a Saint Francis Friary in Loretto, Pennsylvania. Friends will be received at the Friary on Sunday Afternoon, August 7, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. in the Saint Francis Friary Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Saint Francis Friary Chapel. The Very Rev. Richard L. Davis, T.O.R., Minister Provincial will preside.
The Pardon of Assisi is also known as the Portiuncula Indulgence. In July of 1216, Francis prayed at the chapel of the Portiuncula in Assisi asking Jesus for a general pardon for all those who come to pray in the chapel dedicated to Our Lady. He wanted the salvation for all. On 2 August he announcedto all the faithful gathered, this indulgence in the name of Jesus and approved by the Pope, saying “Brothers, I want to send you all into Paradise.”

His Dissertation with Distinction was entitled: Visionary Experiences Examined: Recent Scientific Studies of Extra Ordinary Religious Experiences and their Contribution to Spirituality – the Case of the Medjugorje Seers.

In 1847, nearly fifteen years before the Civil War, the bishop of Pittsburgh invited six Franciscan Friars from Ireland to establish a school in Loretto, Pennsylvania. The humble efforts of the friars would one day become Saint Francis University. In this short video Fr.
