As members of the Franciscan community, we profess vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. Poverty helps us to live simple, uncluttered lives; chastity allows us to be single-minded for the Kingdom of God; obedience permits God's will to have priority in our lives.

The Franciscan Friars, TOR live in community and continue the mission of Francis of Assisi through lives of:

Conversion

The men of our fraternity are called to a life of total and continuous conversion to the Gospel. We let the Lord turn us around and shape our lives according to his Word.

Minority

Through a life of penance we conform ourselves to Christ, the servant of God sent into the world.

Poverty

We follow the example of Francis of Assisi by recognizing we are God's poor people who leave all for the Gospel.

Contemplation

We are called to serve God's people actively in the world, but also to keep a spirit of prayer. Our life is at once active and contemplative. Both individually and communally, prayer is the center of our life.

The friars of the Third Order Regular, animated by the spirit of Franciscan joy and always prepared for constant renewal, endeavor to spend all their energy in advancing the Kingdom of God in the world. Our fraternal living provides a center where we are nourished and strengthened so that we may go out and be of service to the Church. At the same time, our service to the Church and our concern for each other build fraternity in the Gospel values of faith, hope and love.

In all that we do, we seek to serve the needs of the Church.

We are:

  • Educators in High Schools, College & University

  • Parish Ministers

  • Promoters of Church Renewal

  • Campus Ministers

  • Advocates of Social Justice

  • Hospital Chaplains

  • Foreign Missionaries

In addition to being of service to the Church in the United States, our friars also serve the people of God in other parts of the world.

Through our missionary activities we serve where the needs of the people are staggering and the problems of poverty, education and medical care are overwhelming. There is progress in our mission because our Franciscan missionaries believe in the reality of the prayer of Saint Francis, "Lord, where there is despair, let me sow hope." We realize that preaching the Good News of salvation is the vision of the Kingdom Of God to be achieved in all throughout the world.
